As the state endures record temperatures and residents struggle to keep cool, California has declared a statewide flex alert that could prompt rolling outages throughout San Diego County. San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has stated that those already affected by blackouts won't be affected and they assured county residents that power will not be cut in fire-prone areas.
SDG&E is asking its customers in San Diego and southern Orange County to conserve power through Wednesday as temperatures continue to soar throughout the state, especially in inland valleys and mountains where the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning.
The flex alert is in effect from 3 - 10 p.m. daily through Wednesday and SDG&E says large sections of the county could experience blackouts. The power company released a statement which said, “To help avoid further rotating outages, we are encouraging customers to conserve energy as much as they can. If conditions do not improve, it’s likely we could experience additional rotating outages throughout the duration of this heat wave.”
