DeMaio Report: Councilwoman files restraining order against constituents

Carlsbad City Councilwoman Cori Schumacher filed a restraining order in San Diego Superior Court against three senior citizen constituents, simply for criticizing her on social media - per the documents she provided the court.

When you are sworn in as an elected official and become a government representative, your job is to hear from the public. If you don’t want the job, you don’t need to apply by putting your name on the ballot. Councilwoman Cori Schumacher is a far left-winger who is crazy on policies. It would be easy to see why some of her constituents would take issue with some of the things she does or says.

Three senior citizen constituents have done just that! They were unhappy with how they were being represented, so they took to social media to voice their opinions. Councilwoman Schumacher says “she fears for her life,” because of it, and the allegation is that they are telling her to “move out of town” and that they are “watching” her. This may not be polite, but it goes with the territory. “That’s the rally cry of anybody that wants to get the bums out of office,” Lou Penrose stated.

Our family court system is already clogged and delayed with real cases that need to be addressed by judges. Now, Councilwoman Schumacher is moving herself to the front of that line of cases. In front of true victims that need restraining orders! All because she didn’t like the fact that some people were being critical of her on social media.

Schumacher also states that one constituent, Anthony Bona, made threats that increased with intensity over time and that “he had intentions to force (her) to leave (her) home and surveille (her).” Bona was blocked from posting on the City’s social media pages, so he logged a complaint. “He has every right to complain to the City. That is the right of a citizen, it may or may not be valid, but it is their right,” says Carl DeMaio. “You can’t file a restraining order because someone filed a complaint against the City,” DeMaio continued.

Bona states that he, along with others, made a “recall Cori Schumacher” post online, and one day later, he was served with the restraining order. “You draw your own conclusions,” stated Bona. “This is nothing more than abuse of the courts and she’s just trying to save her rear-end,” says DeMaio. “If a judge issues a restraining order, we will recall him from the bench,” DeMaio continued.

Anthony Bona is considering filing a lawsuit against Schumacher. He states that he has been out of work for nearly nine months and that this restraining order is robbing his chances to find gainful employment.
