With the surge in cases and hospitalizations due to COVID-19, state and county health officials are urging San Diegans to keep Thanksgiving and other holiday celebrations small, short and safe.
The latest report from San Diego County health officials includes a new record high in the number of one day infections, 1,546 reported Tuesday. Since Saturday there have been more than 5,000 new coronavirus cases in the county. There were 16 new deaths reported Tuesday bringing the total to 984 since the start of the pandemic..
“The continuing spike in cases ahead of this week’s holiday is alarming and it is vital that all San Diegans commit themselves to the public health guidance,” said Wilma J. Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The sooner we lower our case rates, the sooner we will be able to lift restrictions and reopen our businesses.”
California Health and Human Services Secretary said Tuesday that coronavirus infections have risen by 51 percent in the last two weeks, hospitalizations have risen by 81 percent and ICU's have gone up by 57 percent. Dr. Ghaly offered guidance for the Thanksgiving holiday urging Californians to gather only with immediate household or family, calling it the most important time to follow health safety guidelines. New Stay at Home Order
The new limited stay at home curfew went into effect last weekend and will be in effect for 30 days until December 21st. The new orders, gatherings with people outside your household are not allowed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Restaurants, bars, wineries, distilleries and breweries must close to sit-down customers from 10 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Businesses can offer take-out, drive-thru and delivery at any time.
