A fast moving brushfire, fanned by Santa Ana winds, broke out late Wednesday evening in Rancho San Diego, prompting evacuations of area residents.
The fire broke out in the 2800 block of Willow Glen Drive about 10:30pm. As of Thursday morning, evacuation orders had been lifted and the fire had burned 30 acres and was 50 percent contained. Cal Fire says one home was destroyed and six others damaged. There were no reports of injuries.
Authorities went door to door warning residents as evacuations took place in the area of Wind River Road to Lime Rock Court. A temporary evacuation center was set up at the McGrath Family YMCA on Campo Road where the Red Cross assisted.
Crews from Heartland, San Miguel and Cal Fire battled the fire. Road closures were in effect. A Red Flag Warning is currently in effect due to Santa Ana winds until 10 p.m. Saturday.
