It was a close call on Interstate 5 near the Del Mar Fairgrounds Tuesday afternoon.
A single engine plane made an emergency landing in the southbound lanes of the freeway striking several vehicles in the southbound lanes of the busy freeway. Two people in vehicles escaped with minor injuries.
The pilot and passenger aboard the single-engine Piper PA-32, were not hurt and walked away from the plane after it came to rest against the center freeway divider.
All southbound lanes were closed for hours and some of the northbound lanes were also closed for a while.
The FAA is investigating what led the pilot to make the emergency landing on the freeway.
