About 250 San Diegans joined the meeting to tell supervisors what they thought of hte declaration, many of them opposed to the supervisors taking a position on the free exchange of information.
The board ultimately voted along party lines, 3-2, to approve declaring Covid misinformation to be a public health crisis. Supervisors Jim Desmond and Joel Anderson in opposition, with Anderson saying, the declaration was well-intentioned, but misguided.
There are nop penalties associated with the declaration, which Board Chair Nathan Fletcher believes is the only one of its kind in the nation.
