Steve Kruger, a longtime UPS driver, was one of the two people killed in a tragic plane crash in Santee on Monday, October 12.
He was making his delivery rounds in Santee when the twin-engine Cessna C340 nosedived into a residential neighborhood.
According to NBC7, Kruger had worked for UPS for more than three decades and was just months away from retirement. He was 61-years-old and resided in Ocean Beach.
UPS released a statement on Tuesday, October 12, that said:
"We are heartbroken by the loss of our driver Steve Krueger, and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Those who knew Steve said he took pride in his work, and his positive attitude and joyful laugh made the hardest days a little lighter."
The company held a moment of silence "to pay our respects to Steve and his family."
Kruger's car remained in the parking lot of the UPS facility in Kearny Mesa where he left it on Monday.
His coworkers left heartfelt notes on the car and placed vases of flowers and a framed photo collage of him next to his car.
The flag at the facility was also flying at half-staff in his honor, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The FAA and the National Transporation Safety Board are currently investigating the crash that destroyed two homes and injured two people.
