San Diego County health officials are now urging you to get tested for COVID-19 only as necessary.
That's because of what Public Health Director Dr. Wilma Wooten says are the highest new case counts of the entire pandemic so far.
Confirmed COVID-19 cases, led by the more contagious Omicron variant, have jumped from about 4,700 per week to more than 45,000 cases reported in the week from Dec. 29th through Jan. 4th.
Hospitalizations have more than doubled in the past 30 days, putting a strain on hospitals that are contending with hundreds of employees unable to work after contracting the virus.
Dr. Wooten is urging residents to:
Get vaccinated. Get a booster when eligible. Get tested only if you have symptoms. Follow the state's indoor mask mandate and wear a tight-fitting mask. And stay home if
