A California home on the market has a special history with ties to one of Hollywood's biggest names. The current owners of the 3-bedroom home in the Oakland Hills claim that a young Tom Hanks rehearsed for school plays there.
They purchased the home on 1931 Magellan Drive 21 years ago and they were told by the sellers that the two-time Oscar winner honed his craft in the family room downstairs while attending Skyline High School in Oakland.
"I don't know if it was a friend's house or a teacher's house," listing agent Sheri Madden told SFGATE. "We have a picture of him on the coffee table."
Hanks grew up in Oakland and graded from Skyline High in 1974. Even after finding fame, he returned to his alma mater to give a graduation speech saying, "I live in the best city in the best part of the world. I went to the best high school in the best city in the world."
The listing price is currently at $979,000 and offers the following description about the "Tom Hanks Room:"
"The Tom Hanks room, also known as the family room or home office. This spacious room opens to the deck and the backyard. It has a bar refrigerator and sink and an adjoining bath. It was the room where Tom Hanks occasionally practiced for Skyline High School plays. How many homes have that claim to fame?"
