Flex Alert Expanded as State Urges More Conservation to Avoid Blackouts

The latest Flex Alert to conserve energy is expanded to 3pm-10pm to help prevent possible rolling blackouts.

Californians are being asked to reduce their energy use during those hours Thursday. This follows the California power grid operator issuing Energy Emergencies on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The energy alerts mean the state's power grid manager is requesting emergency supplies from all resources to meet what is expected to be a heightened demand for electricity. Cal ISO is calling on people to step up their conservation efforts further to avoid the possibility of rolling blackouts.

San Diego Gas & Electric is identifying areas of the county where potential rolling blackouts could occur if CAL-ISO calls for power to be shut off temporarily to protect electric grid.
