Authorities in Jackson, Mississippi, made a grisly discovery over the weekend. The police received a 911 call reporting that a dog was carrying around what appeared to be a human arm.
The severed arm was found on a street on Saturday (November 5), and the next day, officers located human remains in a nearby abandoned home in the woods. The body was missing an arm and a head.
The head was located later, but officials did not say where it was found.
The victim was identified as 54-year-old Scott Allen Tyler by Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart. His cause of death has not been determined, and police have not identified any suspects in the case. Deputy Police Chief Deric Hearn said that investigators are following up on several leads but did not provide additional details about the case.
"That is a very graphic and brutal picture. The mutilation of a body, my reaction is one of disgust, is one of concern," said Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba. "It's not something you grow accustomed to - it's never something you want to grow accustomed to."
