BREAKING NEWS: SDPD Says Officer Shot and Killed Armed Man in San Ysidro

San Diego police say a man reportedly armed with a gun at a trolley station in San Ysidro was shot and killed by an SDPD officer during a confrontation Sunday night.

According to a statement from SDPD, officers were called to the San Ysidro Transit Center on 730 East San Ysidro Boulevard just before 9 p.m. in response to a "disturbance" involving an armed man

Police say an armed man who was ``foaming at the mouth'' on a trolley headed from the Iris Avenue Transit Center to the San Ysidro station. Transit security officers saw the man at the San Ysidro station and told police the suspect was holding a gun in his hand and was ``throwing up gang signs,'' according to the San Diego Union-Tribune,

The man was held at gun point and was listening to commands, then police reported shots fired, and the suspect was shot in the face and chest, the Union-Tribune said. Officers recovered a gun at the scene.  Paramedics arrived, but the man was declared dead before he could be taken to a hospital.

Under San Diego County protocol, sheriff’s department homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
