Sea World, Legoland, and other SoCal theme parks prepare for Storm

SeaWorld and Legoland are among the Southern California theme parks preparing for potential impacts of Hurricane Hilary.

All of Southern California’s theme parks are currently making storm preparations as Hurricane Hilary continues to head north. Hilary is expected to be downgraded to a Tropical Storm by the time it hits landfall, but that still means heavy rain and 70 mph winds bearing down on a area not used to severe tropical weather.

Current models show that SeaWorld San Diego is in the direct path of the storm.

SeaWorld officials said, “We are carefully monitoring this storm and its potential impact here. Our parks have comprehensive weather and emergency preparedness plans in place.”

Saturday morning, Legoland announced that their water park will be closed on Sunday with plans to reopen on Monday. Legoland theme park and SeaLife Aquarium have given no indication of closures and are expected to maintain regular operating hours on Sunday and Monday.

Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain, are also monitoring Hilary’s approach and preparing for potential impacts on Sunday and Monday. when the storm is expected to bring flooding, downed trees and power outages.

  • Disneyland is taking standard foul weather precautions in advance of the anticipated heavy rain and strong winds. The Park is asking visitors and employees to monitor the Disneyland app for information on any unexpected changes to resort operations or select outdoor attraction closures.
  • Universal Studios expects to remain open on Sunday and Monday, but recommends visitors check the park’s website for updates throughout the storm.
  • Knott’s Berry Farm maintenance and operational teams are taking proactive steps to secure the Buena Park theme park and according to the Official Knott’s Twitter account, they “advise guests to check weather forecasts and our website for the latest information about any changes in Knott’s Berry Farm or Knott’s Soak City operating hours.”
  • Six Flags Magic Mountain currently expects the amusement park and Hurricane Harbor water park to remain open as scheduled. However, Magic Mountain is also asking guests to watch for any changes or updates to operations on the park’s website and official social media pages.

As a reminder, the City of San Diego is advising residents to not travel during the storm. This includes not going to the beach and staying out of the water.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria gave an update to the public Saturday afternoon and said, “we continue to ask people to shelter in place during the storm.”
