Four Dead in Freeway Crash, Lone Survivor Only One Wearing Seat Belt

Four people died after they were ejected from a vehicle on the 94 freeway in the early morning of Thanksgiving Day. It happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. near the transition along the 94 with the 15 freeway.

CHP officials say a BMW with five occupants had left the downtown area when the driver lost control, struck an embankment, and then rolled over multiple times. Several witnesses told CHP they believe the car reached speeds of at least 100 mph.

Four people were ejected onto the freeway lanes. They included the 27-year-old male driver, a 35-year-old male, a 32-year-old female, and a 22-year-old female. They were all pronounced dead at the scene by emergency officials

The CHP says a 22-year-old woman, the lone survivor, was rushed to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity. The highway patrol told reporting partner10News that she was the only occupant of he car wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

While the investigation into the crash is in the preliminary stages, CHP officials said the crash was likely DUI-related.
