The San Diego County Sheriff's department says a man who allegedly molested a child last week while employed as a campus supervisor at an Encinitas middle school is under arrest..
He is identified as Omar Hernandez Galeana, 21, a former campus supervisor at Diegueño Middle School in the San Dieguito Union High School District. He is suspected of meeting with and sexually assaulting the 12-year-old during non-school hours on Friday..
Child-abuse detectives arrested Galeana on Sunday, Lt. Lon Nguyen said. He was booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a person under age 14 and furnishing marijuana to a minor.
In a statement, the school district's superintendent, Anne Staffieri, said Galeana had worked at the middle school campus in Encinitas’ Olivenhain community for three months. “As of today, he is no longer an employee of the District,” the superintendent wrote. She said people should not discuss the “terribly unfortunate situation” on social media “as that will not help law enforcement with their investigation, and it serves only to compromise the privacy of those involved.”
The case marks the third arrest within a week of a school employee in San Diego County arrested and accused of sex crimes involving juveniles. A teacher at Mt. Carmel High School is alleged to have had an inappropriate multi-year relationship with a 15 year old student. At Hoover High School associate principal was arrested and charged with distributing lewd matter to a minor and possession of child pornography.
