Newsradio 600 KOGO was honored with three Golden Mikes, more than any other San Diego radio or TV station during the 74th annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles this past weekend.
KOGO was honored for Best Weekend Newscast anchored by Phil Farrar. Judges said "Every station should sound live and local and lead with local stories on the weekend. It was refreshing to hear lots of natural sound, soundbites and stories." This was a team effort as Phil was able to use stories written and voiced by the KOGO News Team.
KOGO also received a Golden Mike for Best Writing for Phil Farrar’s story on the passing and the career of singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffet. The judges wrote they “enjoyed the catchy phrases and the wonderful play on words”.
The third Golden Mike that KOGO received was for Best Light Feature by former reporter Eddie McCoven for his story about the low flying goose that got loose at Petco Park during a baseball playoff game between the Padres and Dodgers.
