A Chinese man was taken into custody for allegedly stabbing four U.S. college instructors in Jilin, a city in northeastern China. Authorities said that the suspect, identified only by his last name of Cui, "collided with a foreigner while walking" in Beishan Park on Monday (June 10) morning.
The 55-year-old then allegedly stabbed the four instructors and a fifth person who tried to stop him. The victims were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
"All the injured were immediately taken to the hospital and received proper medical treatment, and none of them are in life-threatening condition," spokesperson Lin Jian said during a news briefing in Beijing. "The police have preliminarily determined that this case is an isolated incident and are currently conducting further investigations."
The four instructors were from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and were in China as part of a partnership program with Beihua University.
Cornell College President Jonathan Brand said in a statement, "We have been in contact with all four instructors and are assisting them during this time."
