3 People Dead, Including Suspect, Officer Wounded in Little Italy Shootings

Three people are dead including the suspect who police say shot the two in Little Italy Wednesday morning before he was shot and killed by police officers.

A Harbor Police office was wounded in the shootout with the suspect.

San Diego police were called to Ash and Union streets, near the Simone Apartment complex, around 8:20 a.m.

Nearly an hour later, about a mile away, along Kettner Blvd close to Juniper Street. there was a police shootout with the suspect in the two fatal shootings. Harbor PD says officers encountered someone wearing tactical pants and boots who was being "blatant and aggressive," according to a police spokesman. The man had knives and was armed with a gun.

San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said the Harbor police officer was hit by gunfire during the shootout. The suspect died. The officer was shot in the hip and is expected to survive.

San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said there was no longer any danger in either area.
