Mexican Navy Ship That Hit Brooklyn Bridge Visited San Diego

The Mexican Navy tall ship that struck the Brooklyn Bridge in New York this weekend visited San Diego exactly one year ago.

As the San Diego Union Tribune described it on May 17th of 2024, “The crowd began cheering as the 41-year-old Mexican Navy tall ship approached the B Street Pier.”

The ship — with a crew of 261 — docked in San Diego that weekend as part of what was described as a tri-continental training cruise.

The cadets learn maneuvers and maritime traditions, but at each stop they make, they also interact with people from other cultures.

Captain Victor Molina, told the U-T during the visit to San Diego last year that “We represent not only the Mexican Navy, but 127 million Mexicans.”
