ICE Conducts Enforcement Operation at Two South Park Restaurants

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detained several employees at two popular South Park restaurants Friday evening as part of a worksite enforcement operation.

The ICE agents conducted the worksite enforcement operations at Buona Forchetta and and its sister restaurant next door, Enoteca Buona Forchetta.

Managers at the restaurant told reporting partner 10News that at least three employees were taken away in handcuffs after the ICE agents entered the premises and demanded identification from all staff members.

The agents, dressed in military gear and masks, some with weapons, identified themselves as ICE officials and presented warrants, according to restaurant management.

Outside the restaurants, neighbors and customers gathered, with some shouting at agents and gathering around ICE vehicles. A video showed a flash bang going off at one point. The restaurants closed for the evening but were expected to re-open Saturday.

An ICE spokesman issued the following statement following the operation:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement can confirm that ICE San Diego conducted two worksite enforcement operations at Buona Forchetta and Enoteca Buona Forchetta Restaurants in San Diego, Ca. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no further releasable information at this time.
