About a dozen protest rallies and marches were held Saturday across San Diego County as part of a nationwide day of protests that organizers call “No Kings” protests. They are in response to Trump administration polices, including immigration enforcement raids as well as DOGE firings of thousands of federal employees and other policies.
The largest of the protest events was held in downtown San Diego. There also marches or rallies in Chula Vista, El Cajon, Carlsbad, Oceanside and other locations as part of a nationwide day of protests.
SDPD issued this statement Saturday afternoon:
The San Diego Police Department would like to commend the tens of thousands of community members who gathered peacefully on Saturday, June 14, for several large-scale protests across San Diego. Two demonstrations downtown drew an estimated 60,000 plus participants and remained peaceful and respectful throughout the afternoon.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl expressed appreciation for the cooperation between organizers, participants, and officers. “It was encouraging to see so many people gather peacefully today,” said Chief Wahl. “We're grateful to everyone who helped make these events safe for our city.”
Throughout the demonstrations, police officers worked closely with event organizers and community leaders to ensure that traffic was managed, streets remained open where possible, and that safety protocols were followed. As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and there were no reports of property damage or injuries related to the protests.
The Department also recognized the contributions of volunteer marshals, local nonprofit partners, and city agencies that supported the events. Officers were assigned to various demonstrations across the city not only to provide security but to facilitate a safe environment for everyone.
The San Diego Police Department remains committed to protecting the rights of all individuals to assemble and exercise their freedom of speech. We thank our residents for their collaboration and the strong sense of shared responsibility that made this a safe day for our city.
