San Diego Navy Veteran Awarded Congressional Medal of Honor

President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union address in front of Congress on Tuesday night.

In what is now the longest State of the Union speech in history, the president touched on immigration, the economy and tariffs.

He also gave out several medals during the speech, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the U.S. men’s hockey team’s goaltender and the Congressional Medal of Honor to one of San Diego’s very own.

Retired Navy Captain Royce Williams was the last person honored during President Trump’s hour-and-40-minute speech.

he 100-year-old Escondido resident fought in the Korean War, shooting down four Soviet jets in a 1952 classified operation that he kept a secret for more than 50 years.

“Royce was in the dogfight of a lifetime,” President Trump said during his speech.
