Labor Day This Year Brings Concerns Among Workers

Labor Day, a federal holiday originally created to celebrate the American worker. But Labor Day often seems to be more about the official end of the summer vacation season, back to school and of course the start of the football season.

This year though work may be more on everyone’s minds as we celebrate Labor Day.

With the high prices for everything from hosing to gas to beef, a lot of American workers are having to work longer and get an extra job to make ends meet. When it costs near or over 100 bucks to fill up your gas tank, you know that every worker is feeling it and many worry if they can pay the bills.

There’s an old saying about some people live to work while others work to live. Most people these days are probably in the latter category, with many of the time to retire older workers still working at least parttime.

And of course this Labor Day comes just two months before the mid-term elections. Maybe it will serve as a reminder for both political parties that when it comes to elections, that the old adage about elections being about the economy is as true this year as it has ever been.
