5.8 Earthquake Hits Central California After 4.6 Quake Hit Same Area Monday

U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that an earthquake centered 60 miles northwest of Ridgecrest, California (near Lone Pine) struck at 10:40 am on Wednesday. The quake was felt several miles away, with reports saying as far 240 miles in Sacramento.

10 aftershocks were recorded following the quake, which also caused a rock slide in the surrounding mountains.

Doctor Lucy Jones, a veteran seismologist took to Twitter to report that a 4.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in the same location on Monday night, saying "That is now considered a foreshock".

No injuries or deaths have been reported in relation to this quake.
