The number of deaths attributed to the Camp Fire continues to climb. Officials on Tuesday evening revealed that more bodies were found bringing the number to 48. The process of identifying the dead is underway.
Butte County Sheriff/Coroner Kory Honea said anyone who reports a missing person will be interviewed by a detective and possibly be asked to provide a DNA sample to help identify family members who may be among those who have died in the fire.
There are currently over 200 missing person reports being investigated. The Butte County Sheriff's Department has established new telephone numbers to take reports of people missing due to the Camp Fire. To report someone missing in the fire or someone who was listed as missing but since has been found, please call 530-538-6570, 530-538-7544, or 530-538-7671.
Cal Fire puts the size of the wildfire at approximately 130,000 acres and say it is 35 percent contained with over 8800 structures destroyed. It is expected those numbers will continue to go up in the coming days and weeks. The fire is not expected to be fully contained until the end of November.
Approximately 52,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes. That number includes the 27,000 residents of the City of Paradise. However, officials on Saturday night reassured residents of Oroville that there are currently no plans to evacuate that city at this point. In February 2017, Oroville Dam's main and emergency spillways were damaged, prompting the evacuation of more than 180,000 people living downstream along the Feather River.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company also acknowledged that they had transmission line problems ten minutes before the Camp Fire started. Fire officials noted that they are in daily contact with PG&E regarding power lines and other consideration.
