The families who live in El Cajon, were visiting Afghanistan during summer vacation and ended up being stranded as the Taliban took over the country following U.S. military departure.

Cajon Valley School District Superintendent, David Miyashiro who has provided updates about the families, confirmed that seven families have made it out of the country safely. Four families have already arrived back in El Cajon, two more have made it to the U.S. and are en route to San Diego County, while another family has been evacuated from Afghanistan and is on its way back to the U.S.

Amid the happy news the seven families have safely escaped the chaos in Kabul, one family with three children is still in Afghanistan. Miyashiro, who is working with U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, explained “We have intel based on our family community engagement officers, so we know where they are, we know how to get to them and there are still means to do that,” Miyashiro told FOX 5. “It’s just much more complicated now.”
