Survey Says Anti-Semitism on the Rise in U.S.

A new survey is out on anti-semitism as this weekend marks two somber anniversaries.

It was one year ago this weekend that a gunman killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. And it was six months ago this same weekend that a gunman walked into the Chabad of Poway here in San Diego and shot and killed a woman and wounded three others including the rabbi at the synagogue.

The American Jewish Committee has just released a survey that reveals evidence of rising anti-Semitism in America.

The survey of says about 85% of American Jews say antisemitism in the U.S. has increased – and a plurality, 43%, say it has increased a lot – over the past five years. The survey says the belief that anti-Semitism has grown is consistently high among Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

And a spokesman for the American Jewish Committee says anti-Semitic statements and views come from both the far-right and the far-left. And he says many Jews say they are more fearful now of even attending worship services even with many synagogues from Poway to Pittsburgh having increased security.

In an interview with KOGO News, he says there are reasons for the rise of anti-Semitism and violence in America. You can hear it tonight on San Diego’s Evening News starting at 6.
