WATCH: Optimistic Battle Against the Pandemic and What to Do

It was a busy day in the fight against the coronavirus as we moved into the ninth month of the pandemic.

California’s Governor announces a one month nighttime curfew. The San Diego County Sheriff steps up enforcement. The CDC announces a travel advisory. And the White House Coronavirus task force calls on Americans to be vigilant.

It all happened almost at the same time Thursday as the pandemic that began early this year is getting worse as we near the end of the year.

New cases hitting new highs here and almost everywhere.Hospitalizations on the rise. And the daily number of reported deaths going up.

It’s not what any of us wanted going into the holiday season of 2020, except for the news we did want to hear this week;that two coronavirus vaccines look like they will be 95-percent effective and could be available at least to front line health care workers by the end of December.

The nation’s infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, appearing reassuringly optimistic about the vaccines.

But adding that until the vaccines start going into the arms of most Americans, we face a continued battle to slow this new surge.

And Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx say the way to do that is for all Americans to do what works; wearing masks, social distancing, and washing hands.

Back at the beginning of the pandemic, we were told that we’re all in this together. And now more than eight months later, we really are.
