It is 2020 but who would have imagined that a pair of strip clubs would be what would lead to a revealing of just how sharp the disagreements are about how to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
From the start of the first stay at home order, to the new regional stay at home order, public office holders and the public have disagreed over how best to take on the virus. While we all are in this together, we don’t all agree on what steps to take to slow and stop the virus.
It is for sure a balancing act between public health and economic health. Go far enough with the restrictions to prevent the spreads of infections without going so far that businesses will all go bankrupt and thousands upon thousands of employees are no longer employees.
For public health experts, understandably and appropriately, the first concerns are public health and lives. For some business owners and some public office holders, the first concerns are economic health and livelihoods.
With a San Diego judge’s ruling laying bare the disagreements by giving the okay for strip clubs to open, and as a result, restaurants as well, the debate over what best to do is now center stage.
Whatever the courts may ultimately decide, the battle against this now raging virus really comes down to what each of us as individuals do; you know, those same three things, about masks, gatherings and washing hands. If everyone did those three things, along with rolling up their sleeves when it’s their time to get the vaccination, the pandemic will close down a lot faster.
