It didn’t take many days into the new year to see another unusual event.
The storm that hit San Diego was a rare one, not like any other storm in years, walloping the whole county from the smallest beaches to the highest mountains.
Oh, we’ve had storms before that bring us lots of rain and flooding. And we’ve had storms that bring us lots of mountain snow. And we’ve had storms that bring us lots of winds and storms that bring us cold temperatures we rarely see.
But this storm was one that had it all, lots of rain, snow, hail, strong winds, waterspouts, and records for the lowest high temperatures in some inland valley areas where it didn’t even each 50 degrees.
Not quite what we’re used to in San Diego County very often. In fact, not very often at all.
On the list of memorable winter storms in San Diego in the National Weather Service Archives for January 25th, you have to go way back to 1983, when we had a storm that brought is a lot of rain and a lot of flooding.
But the winter storm this week, was one that we will remember as one that pretty much had at least some of it all. And 2021 has just begun.
