If you’re one of those who have already gotten the two dose or the single dose vaccination from the coronavirus, you know how it feels.
Not the feeling of the needle or the fever or other brief side effects for a day or two, but the feeling that goes with knowing that you’re now protected from the getting COVID except for a very small chance. You’ve probably seen the reports of people who have just had the shot smiling, applauding and even cheering.
Now with the news of millions of more doses of the vaccines expected in the coming weeks and months and with the age of eligibility is dropping to 50 years old on April 1st and 16 years old on April 15th, a lot more people here in California are going to begin feeling and acting the same way.
Making appointments could still be a challenge for a while, but this is good news.
And there was also the good news this week that Pfizer is underway now with their trial on a vaccine for kids as young as infants which they say could be approved later this year.
At the same time however, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and other public health experts are warning that this does not mean we can throw away our masks and start hugging everyone we meet and stop washing our hands.
The coronavirus and its variants are all still out there and it will still be several months before everyone in the country who wants to be vaccinated is vaccinated. But it sure is nice seeing all the smiles after all these shots.
