WATCH: Zooming in on Schools Reopening as Teachers Prepare for Kids

More students starting to go back to their school classrooms for in-person instruction means more parents won’t have to be distance learning coaches.

For the last year, many parents have been just that; guiding and instructing their kids as they sat in front of their desktops or laptops learning through zooming.

A recent national survey in the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics on the how parents and children have been doing during the pandemic found that close to 30 percent of parents said their mental health was being affected and about 15 percent said they worried about the behavioral health of their kids.

Distance learning is not ideal and every expert and parent seems to agree and there have been some who say the stress and mental health impacts have been harder on many parents than on their kids. But there’s no doubt dealing with the pandemic and the shutdown of schools make it hard for both parents and children.

So who’s happier as more schools re-open and more students begin heading back to class? Kids or their parents?

No one thought that when schools all first shutdown more than a year ago that there would still be many still closed and a lot of kids still at home all day. And there still will be for a few more weeks or months.

But as more schools open classrooms, and more kids begin to go to school they way they’ve always been used to, more parents will be able to take a deep breath and still be the parents they’ve always been, but with a little less stress and worry.
