Will the battle over vaccine mandates in schools be eventually decided in the courts?
It may very well be with the way things are going. The president of the San Diego Unified School board told KOGO News this week that they knew there would be lawsuits filed if they voted in favor of instituting a requirement for eligible age students to get vaccinated to be allowed on campus for in-person learning.
And plans for a lawsuit were announced even before that decision was made at the Tuesday evening school board meeting, with a group of parents and others who are adamant about wanting vaccines for their kids to be a choice not a mandate.
The school district says about 65 percent of students 12 and older have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine, with 57 percent having been fully vaccinated. And they say about 76 percent of San Diego Unified employees are fully vaccinated.
With Governor Newsom saying this week that a statewide vaccine mandate for all schools in California remains “on the table”, there could be a slew of lawsuits filed against requiring students to be vaccinated.
It looks like students in San Diego and up and down the state could soon be getting a lesson, in or out of class, about our legal system.
