Why It's Looking More Like Christmas in San Diego This Year

Have you noticed? It IS beginning to look and feel a lot more like Christmas this year.

Things were a lot different a year ago, with the COVID restrictions still in place and no vaccines yet available.Gatherings were discouraged, restaurants were restricted, masks were on and social distancing was the norm. Now a year later, with 75-percent of residents 5 and older in San Diego County now fully vaccinated and hundreds of thousands having gotten boosters, there’s a different look as we get closer to Christmas.

While the new Omicron variant of COVID is here, it looks to be not as serious as the Delta strain so far with the vast majority of hospitalizations still unvaccinated folks.

And there may still be masks in schools and vaccine mandates and some product shortages and some empty shelves, but based on what you see outside, more people in San Diego County are feeling much brighter about the holiday and they’re brightening up the outside of their homes and apartments.

You’re seeing a lot more outdoor Christmas lights and displays this year than last year. And the usual holiday performances, that were all shut down a year ago, are back, with some vaccination protocols, but still happening for those who are immunized to enjoy.

It is indeed beginning to look like Christmas again and easier to make it the most wonderful time of the year…and as Charles Dickens might suggest, to put Christmas past behind us and be thankful for Christmas present.
