It’s Girl Scout cookie season, but this year, things are a little different.
But then isn’t almost everything as we enter the start of the third year of the coronavirus pandemic. Blame it on supply shortages. You’ve seen some of the empty shelves at grocery stores at times. Well, now you can add cookies, to candy and cars and lots of other things on the that are in short supply.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the inventory of Girl Scout cookies at one of the two bakeries in the country that make them is down thanks to the impact of the pandemic leading to staff and product shortages. As a result, the Girl Scouts in San Diego and Imperial Counties are extending their cookie selling season from March 13th to March 27th.
It’s not been easy meeting the demand. And the patience of Girl Scouts and their families has been running as thin as their chocolate mints.
But with the deadline pushed back, they remain hopeful they will get all the cookies they can sell. It is the Girl Scouts’ largest fundraiser every year to pay for programs and charitable causes all the troops support.
So, while the impact of the pandemic often has left a sour taste in our mouths, the Girl Scouts are working to make sure we all have a sweeter feeling about the future, as we all hope for more normal and more cookies.
