WATCH: Why There Will Be an "M" on San Diego Padre Uniforms

The San Diego Padres are the first to announce one, but there will be more.

The team announcing the first deal in MLB with a company that will advertise on the Padres uniforms. The Padres signing the agreement with Motorola means that starting in the 2023 season, you will see a big M for Motorola on the sleeve of players uniforms.

The deal is the result of the new deal between MLB owners and players association that will mean more revenue for teams and ultimately the players.

An argument can be made that with the all the additional revenue coming from the M for Motorola on the Padres uniforms and the logo for other companies on all the MLB teams eventually, teams maybe won’t raise ticket prices as much or as often.

It’s already pretty expensive to take your family to a major league baseball game, an NFL game or an NBA basketball game. But you also hear some fans saying that with the salaries being paid in baseball and some other professional sports, sponsored brands on the uniforms won’t have any effect on holding down ticket prices.

And there are some baseball fans who say they’re worried that it could lead to MLB uniforms one day looking like one of those race cars in NASCAR, with sponsor names spattered all over them.

But then if a big Motorola “M” on the players uniforms does what the CEO of the Padres say the deal means to the team saying it “brings cutting-edge technology and performance to Petco Park” …long suffering fans should be all for it.
