So how do you like the warm and muggy weather we’ve been having in San Diego County and throughout much of Southern California?
It’s not unusual to have SOME hot and humid weather but we’ve already had a ALOT of it.
And all the forecasts say we’re going to have this kind of weather at least through next weekend and possibly longer. That means more of those mountain-size build-up of clouds in the mountains as well as the deserts. And that means more thunder, lightning and more of the monsoon downpours. Some of which have caused some flash flooding in our local mountains and deserts.
And this means you can expect more of those computer-generated announcements from the National Weather Service on radio and TV in the afternoons.
They may be annoying, but as the San Diego Union Tribune put it this week, it’s been suggested that we get more of those severe thunderstorm and flash flood alerts partially because many Southern Californians have little experience driving in heavy rain.
If you’ve ever been up on Sunrise Highway on Mt Laguna when one of those downpours hits, you know how quickly the road can become flooded forcing you to pull over or pull into the parking lot at the Laguna Lodge to seek cover. Flash flooding can be serious so it’s wise to pay attention when you hear those severe weather alerts.
Of course, if you grew up in other parts of the country where thunderstorms were common, you may even be enjoying this Midwest-like weather. If not, you can do what a lot of other San Diegans have been doing, head for the beach!
