The Takeaway from Giving Tuesday

So what are you doing for Giving Tuesday?

You’re hearing all the news about it today, the day created 10 years ago in 2012, by the 92nd Street YMCA in New York City.

Giving Tuesday is a day its creators say came from a simple idea; to encourage people to do good and to give back in whatever ways they can.

So how do we do that? Christians are encouraged in the Bible to give their time, their talents and their treasures.

So while people are encouraged to give money to non-profit organizations who serve their communities in some way, it’s not only about making donations of dollars.

You also can volunteer at a place that can use your talents or use your particular skills to help someone who needs something repaired.

You can also give others your time and attention on this day and reach out to a friend you haven’t talked to for a while or visit someone who’s alone and lonely or ill and hurting who can use your encouragement and support or make it a special day to just spend more time with your family.

And Giving Tuesday is a good day for all of us to think more about giving every day.
