Maybe it was nature’s way of giving us a white Christmas just a little late.
The holiday was more than a month ago but San Diego County’s mountains have tree tops glistening and snow falling.
And over the next couple of days there are sure to be plenty of Frosty the Snowmen built up on Mt Laguna along with snowball fights and a lot of sleds of all sizes and shapes carrying kids of smiling kids.
Living in San Diego, we don’t get to experience real snow…and lots of it…very often, but thanks to Mother Nature, and who knows, even climate change, we can now.
There are the usual advisories about driving and parking along the Sunrise Highway surrounded by what some TV weather folks insist on calling “the white stuff.” And there are the messages from park rangers and from those who live or work up in the mountains to enjoy the snow but be sure to pack up your trash when you gather up your wet clothes and boots and take it all home with you.
Crowds of families are expected up on Mt. Laguna, because this could be the last time we get this kind of snowfall up in our mountains until next winter.
But then our weather lately has been unusual, with more rain than we usually get and temperatures below average. So maybe there will be another big snow event coming in February which starts tomorrow. The weather folks don’t predict the future, they make their best forecast of what will happen in the future. And it’s hard to know to know what kind of weather we will have over the next four weeks, that far out.
But for now, winter lovers who moved to San Diego and those who have lived here all their lives and who like to go to the snow and don’t like it to come to them, are going to enjoy a winter wonderland San Diego style.
