What We Worry About and What to Do About It

It’s a conversation that probably every parent and every grandparent has had at one point or another.

A conversation about how things are and how things have become. Having had one this week with someone, it was a reminder of the importance of it.

Parents and grandparents often say, I’m worried for my kids and for my grandkids.  I’m worried about the way things have changed and I’m worried about the world in which they will live.

No matter what side of the political fence you’re on, parents and grandparents do worry about the kids in their family. It comes pretty naturally. There are various polls that reflect a lot of worry and unhappiness and even fear among a lot of American about the way things are going.

According to the Chapman University Survey of American Fears in 2022, our most common fears revolve around five main topics: corrupt government officials, harm to a loved one, war, environmental concerns and economic worries. Not surprising with the things that are happening in the world in which we live.

So what do we do about it? Just keep worrying?  Just stay fearful about the future?

While we may think that each of us individually can’t change the world, some wise people have always said we can as individuals change ourselves.  And if enough people do it, that can change the world.

While we as parents and grandparents, have not only been blessed, but we also are tasked with the job of helping, teaching and guiding kids, so that they can change the world.
