Will the Growing Problem of Homelessness Ever Be Solved?

The latest monthly report on the number of people who are homeless in San Diego County is more bad news.

The San Diego Regional Task Force on Homelessness this week reported that about twice as many people became homeless than found housing in January with just more than 1,200 people becoming homeless for the first time with 663 homeless people getting housing last month.

The San Diego Tribune reports that the number of and size of homeless encampments is growing from the East Village to Chula Vista to Oceanside.

And we’re not alone. Just ask anyone who has visited downtown Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle recently, they will tell you these cities all have the same thing happening with homelessness…and worse than ever.

Every week you hear and see these stories on the radio, TV, in the newspaper and on line. And every week, state, city and county leaders talk about it and that they are working to make things better.  And every week, the local organizations that help and house the homeless keep saying more has to be done.

It’s become pretty clear that without some drastic action and a lot more money, solutions to the homeless problem appear to be almost hopeless. But this humanitarian and economic problem must be solved. Somehow. Some way!
