Spring officially begins today, but apparently Mother Nature doesn’t know it yet as the weather we’ve had for most of the winter continues on and on it seems.
Here we go again this week with yet another atmospheric river dumping more rain, brining on more flooding and along with it, the strong gusty winds we’ve had a lot for the last two to three months.
This latest atmospheric river storm, the 12th if you’re keeping count, is taking aim more at Southern California and that means even more snow in the San Bernardino Mountains where people are still digging out from under literally tons of snow from earlier storms.
And the new problem, say forecasters, is with the ground already saturated and as temperatures warm as we get further into the Spring, combined with the snow melt, flooding could become a bigger problem in some areas of the state. The winter storms have already damaged homes and forced evacuations in parts of California so we don’t need more winter weather.
The only good news of course is that for now, and probably at least for some while, California’s historic drought has dramatically lessened.
Now if we could just find a way to figure out a way to capture and save all this water from the sky, into larger reservoirs and holding tanks, the storms would be easier to take we wouldn’t have to worry as much about future droughts.
