Why Money is Not What Makes Padres Owner Peter Seidler Special

It’s a big day for the San Diego Padres, for the fans and our commuinity..

It’s the day that a player who has been described as having the most potential to possibly become the best player ever in Major League Baseball returns to the lineup.

All eyes are now going to be on Fernando Tatis Jr, now that he has served his suspension of 80 games after testing positive last summer for a banned physical enhancement drug.

But there is another person who is getting a lot of attention today, the owner of the Padres, Peter Seidler, who is unlike any owner the Padres have ever had and certainly unlike any other MLB team owner. And not just because of all the money he is spending on players.

Peter Seidler, as a person and what he is like, is what makes him stand out from all the others. Listen to what he told the San Diego Union Tribune this week about the 24-year-old Fernando Tatis Jr.

“I know he’s a good person. He treats people well. He’s a respectful person.”  Seidler adds, “Strong human beings come back from difficult circumstances…and I think he’s going to come back strong.”

Peter Seidler, who has battled disease, is the kind of person who looks at the world as a glass half full and in fact filled with optimism, the kind of person who believes that something good can come out of something bad. That’s why Seidler donates a ton of money to charities and organizations that help people who are homeless.

And that’s why the Padres, their fans and everyone in San Diego should be thankful we have a human being like Peter Seidler in our community.
