So now that we know the one winning ticket to have all the numbers to win the $1 billion dollar Powerball jackpot was sold at a mini market in Los Angeles, everyone is wondering who won it.
It may be a while though before we know who it is. Lottery jackpot winners usually are advised to be careful with revealing their identities and wait until the name has to be released.
After all, when you win a giant jackpot like this one, of one billion dollars, you’re going to get a lot of attention, a lot of calls, a lot of offers, a lot of pitches and possibly lots of trouble.
Of course most people probably would be happy to risk all that if they were lucky enough to win that kind of money. But with the odds of winning a lottery jackpot at one in 292.2 million, it doesn’t happen very often and it only has happened to a small number of people.
And there was a lot of chatter on social media last night with some even suggesting that the lotteries are rigged, because it seems, they said, that only people in California, Texas and New York seem to be these big jackpot winners.
You might think that with these three states having the most people in them, it shouldn’t be surprising. The odds of winning, however, are so tiny, whatever slight difference in odds that might exist is very tiny.
Yet there were still some on Twitter suggesting it’s unfair or even that there’s some kind of conspiracy behind it all. But then it does seem as if there are always a few out there who think there’s a conspiracy about everything.
