The battle over the buoys at the border in Texas has heightened the controversy over the issue of immigration to another new high.
The issue is already probably the most contentious one there is in politics right now and there are a lot of them.
And it’s looking like this now legal and political battle between the Biden administration and the governor of Texas could be another one that ends up going to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The U.S Justice Department’s filing of a lawsuit against Texas Governor Gregg Abbott over the wall of connected buoys in the Rio Grande river along the Mexican border to prevent people from crossing into the U.S. was quickly followed by Gov Abbott saying, “See you in court, Mr. President.”
So the fight is on. But at the same time, there is a new bi-partisan proposal in Congress that’s aimed at coming to some kind of agreement over the immigration issues at the border.
A Republican and a Democrat in the House have together introduced what they call the Dignity Act of 2023. The bill includes four goals: stopping illegal immigration, finding a solution for undocumented immigrants already living in the U.S., strengthening the nation’s workforce and economy; and ensuring the U. S. remains prosperous and competitive.
Of course, the two political parties have tended to fight with each other over the border issues than try to solve them. So it won’t be easy. But finding common ground to solve problems is what our political leaders are supposed to do, right?
