As the countdown to Election Day winds down to hours, several hundred thousand voters in San Diego County already have cast their votes by using their mail ballot.
The numbers from the Registrar of Voters look like this:
Of 1.9 million bail ballots sent out for this Presidential year Primary election, more than 340,000 of them had already been returned as of this past Saturday. So while there are some voters who don’t trust mail ballots, most apparently do.
More than 4,000 voters cast their ballots at one of the many vote centers around the county.
The other important numbers, or best guesses, are about what the voter turnout will be in this election, predictions based on recent past history. The turnout in the last presidential year primary four years ago in 2020 was 49-percent of registered voters who cast ballots. The predictions for this election are about the same. maybe slightly less.
While primary elections in California don’t determine winners, but only the top two finishers who face off in the November election, the results from tomorrow’s election still can often set the stage for one of the strongest candidates to win in the fall.
So this election is important. The harder thing to know is what the mood is of most voters this year.
There are polls that show a lot of voters are not happy with politics these days. But will that drive more voters…so there’s a change. Or will it mean more voters not voting because they’ve had it with politics. We will find out after Election Day.
