Remembering the Two Weeks San Diegans Will Never Forget

We are on the eve of a week that anyone who was living in San Diego in 2003 and 2007 will never forget.

Going back in time, it was what happened on October 21 of 2007 and on October 25 of 2003.

Those two days were the days the largest and most destructive and most deadly wildfires in San Diego County in modern history broke out.

As multiple fires raged fueled by Santa Ana winds across the county, hundreds of thousands of acres burned, thousands of homes were destroyed or damaged and people were killed.

The sights, sounds and images of those historic fires are still seared in the memories of millions of residents who left their homes behind…only to return later to see charred ruins.

These fires burned for days and in different ways, changed the lives of many people.

But one thing that we all will remember is the bravery and the courage of the hundreds of firefighters who fought the flames.

It was one of the finest examples ever seen in America’s Finest City and elsewhere around our county of why our firefighters and other first responders were and are still heroes every day.

Coming up Monday morning and again next Friday morning, KOGO’s Jack Cronin and our news team will bring you special reports on what happened during those October weeks in 2007 and 2003.
