So how did you sleep last night? If you’re someone who voted for Donald Trump you probably slept pretty well. If you’re someone who voted for Kamala Harris, you probably didn’t have a good night’s sleep.
The folks at Time.com today are reporting on a poll by the American Psychological Association that found that nearly 80-percent of people, including both political parties, said that the future of the country was a significant source of stress and that 56 percent said they feared that the election results would spell the end of democracy in the United States.
And while the election may be over and while Harris supporters are stunned and Trump supporters are thrilled, the divide between the two sides is not likely to disappear. And neither probably will the stress of politics go away.
The strong differences between people that existed before the election results are not just going to go away. On either side. And that’s what is maybe most concerning as both sides move forward.
The political disagreements are likely to continue and the divide could even become greater than it is now.
We can hope that both sides will decide to stop the fighting and actually try to work toward compromises and solutions. But based on the divisive nature of the times, the evidence is not headed in that direction.
