What Needs to be Done About Homelessness in San Diego

The latest report on homelessness in San Diego is not at all encouraging. As we are reporting the latest San Diego Regional Task Force on Homelessness monthly report shows once again that more people are becoming homeless in San Diego than are finding housing,

That makes it 31 months in a row that that has been the case.

It’s pretty obvious that the problem of homelessness in San Diego is not getting better and may not be for some time. And with the overnight temperatures already dropping and rain coming this winter, it’s even more crucial time for people who are homeless.

City leaders and homeless advocates have had all kinds of ideas and plans.

In fact a report by the Voice of San Diego this week about the late basketball legend and local native Bill Walton, who campaigned for solutions to the homeless crisis, wanted the streets cleaned up and had the idea of putting homeless people in a camp in the desert to get it done.

The problem of homelessness is not going away but it is only going to improve if local government and community leaders make it the priority it should be and come up with plans that actually will reduce homelessness. But it will take money, and maybe a lot of money, and a firm and strong commitment to finding solutions.
