How the Pandemic Changed Some Things

Federal workers aren’t the only ones losing their jobs and looking for new ones.

Headlines in recent days have included stories about Starbucks getting rid of more than 11-hundred corporate jobs.

And Joanne crafts and fabrics, a company that has been around for 80 years is snow closing all of its stores nationwide after announcing bankruptcy.

It seems that every day we hear about a longtime retailer in the U.S. closing stores or restaurant chains shutting down locations.

Some say it’s the lingering effects from the COVID pandemic which began five years ago next month.

Remember when stores, schools and restaurants were closed.

The virus did change things for sure. Masks may have come off, but the way business operate and the way shoppers have shopped, now many more on line, all have led to shopping malls with fewer stores along with movie theaters closing.

While most companies have told their employees who worked from home through the years of the pandemic, now required back in the office, some corporate leaders decided after the pandemic they maybe they didn’t need as many employes and downsized staff and even office space.

And the move toward more use of AI,, or artificial intelligence, has also affected  jobs.

Change happens, but the COVID pandemic that began five years ago, may be seen by history as having speeded it up.
